It is very important for the construction companies to ensure the safety of their workers and provide them with appropriate and safe personal protective equipment (PPE) that must be worn by the workers at all times during the period of construction or renovation at sites. As there are a lot of hazardous situations and risks of injury or illness one can face in construction sites, the workers should be provided with maximum information and security. The construction site should be clearly and keenly evaluated before providing safety measures to its workers, as different sites include specific dangers or unexpected hazards and mishaps that are a regular occurrence in the industry. Some of the common causes of hazards that take place at construction sites with risks can be kept in a check with appropriate PPE that includes falls, heat, chemical or harmful dust, rollover, caught-in or caught-between, and penetration. Hence it is very important that the workers use personal protective equipment (PPE) that is properly fitted so that not a single piece comes loose while working. It must also be comfortable to wear and allow mobility. Ensuring all these facts will reduce the risk of tripping or getting caught in moving parts, etc.
Let us see some of the basic personal protection equipment
Eye and face protection
Wearing safety glasses and face shields are a must wherever there is a risk of flying debris or harmful materials getting in the eye which usually occurs during the time of grinding, cutting, welding, nailing and chipping concrete or harmful materials. It should also be worn when working on any electrical equipment or energized electrical systems.
Foot protection
Workers should always wear FXD boots and safety boots with a steel-toe to prevent crushing of the roes while working around heavy equipment or falling objects. Boots that have slip-resistant and puncture resistant soles are a good choice since work surfaces often have sharp objects laying around and slips are a very common hazard on a construction site.
Hand protection
Hand gloves should be provided to the workers that fit them snugly. Each worker should wear the appropriate glove for the job they are going to perform. For concrete work use heavy duty rubber gloves. In welding processes, use welding gloves, insulated gloves, and sleeves. Hazards especially electrical could be prevented through this.
Head protection
The most important part to be protected while working in a construction site is the head. Hard hats and helmets should be used to prevent the hazard from falling objects or bumping into hard objects.
